Adventures in Waterton (and Montana)

We spent 8 days at the luxurious Galbraith cabin in Waterton, Alberta and saw the sights in and around the area. We put a total of 2131km on the CR-V for this roadtrip and visited Montana three times. Waterton is definitely one of Alberta's hidden treasures!

  • We hiked a bit around Cameron Lake. Julia seemed to enjoy the outdoors.
  • It drizzled a bit while we hiked around the lake.
  • The first oil well in western Canada is on the road leading to Cameron Lake in Waterton National Park.
  • We visited the Gust Gallery in the Waterton townsite.
  • Becky Galbraith had 2 pieces being displayed (and for sale) at the Gust Gallery. One can be seen here (the big one leaning on the wall). We chatted with the lady that ran the place and she let Cly take these photographs when she heard we were staying at the Galbraith cabin. You can see more of Becky's paintings here <a href="http://www.beckygalbraithfineart.com/">www.beckygalbraithfineart.com.

  • We drove out to Raymond to visit Darcie's sister Connie (and her family) one afternoon. These are fields with hay bales - a very Albertan scene.
  • We also took a day to drive down to Great Falls, Montana. The drive on the I-15 is pretty bleak; just dirt and grass. Of our 3 visits to Montana on this trip, this was the least scenic.

  • Darcie tries out the hammock at the Galbraith cabin.
  • This is what happens when Cly tries a hammock with no internet or cell phone or TV to distract him.
  • We took the 20 minute drive up to Red Rock Canyon and saw 2 bears really quickly.
  • Red Rock Canyon
  • The rock really is red.
  • On the way down we saw a few more bears including this one.
  • Old mechanical horse at the Waterton gas station.
  • One of the many deer in the Waterton townsite. They almost seem domesticated because so many hang around the townsite and aren't afraid of people. And some look a little portly.
  • a buck we saw in the town campsite
  • Cameron Falls is only about 150 meters from the Galbraith cabin. This is a 1.6 second exposure.
